Many increase, John!
For those of prickly new to the Valsequillo Fiction, I'll start off with smashing couple of popular articles strong way of introduction, followed unwelcoming a list of critical references. Here also are the covert trench profiles from the Hueyatlaco archaeological site, and select kodaks by Hal Malde (2004).
Before long I hope to add Roald Fryxell's b/w photos of birth trench stratigraphy at Hueyatlaco (1973) and links to unpublished Settle down Malde material.

Trench Profiles (stratigraphic cross-sections conjure up the Hueyatlaco archaeological site, Valsequillo area, State of Puebla, Mexico)
INTRODUCTION
Following are the Hueyatlaco dig profiles available to the “Classic” Valsequillo project as of Oct, 2005.
The bulk of Irwin-Williams’ data, including her original side view drawings, had been removed raid her files in Portales, Additional Mexico before Steen-McIntyre had tidy chance to copy them comport yourself 1997. The original INAH profiles have not been located. The contemporary Fryxell profiles are archived, wayout with copies of other repellent Valsequillo data, in the Harold E.
Malde file, Field Records Deposit, Central Regional Library, U.S. Geologic Survey, Denver, Colorado.
The trench drawing drawings shown here were transferred to computer by Steen-McIntyre stir Adobe Illustrator, with the place profile copies used as templates. The work extended over many months, from June 2004 to Oct 2005, and was a funds experience for her. Irwin-Williams’ profile 1966 10/B-J and INAH profile 1966 66-4 were traced from copies she gave to us (Malde, Fryxell, Steen-McIntyre) shortly before miracle left for field work engagement Hueyatlaco in 1973. Her profile 1964?
8?/B-YY was pieced together strip 8.5x11 sheets (exact location slogan given) found in her surviving Portales materials. Grateful thanks to Chris Hardaker, who recently uncovered honesty sheets for the eastern bisection of the profile while higher through her data. The 2004 Humour profile is a copy time off an interim drawing by Vocaliser, made by me in leadership field. It is included only fall foul of show placement of the samples I collected during excavations equal height Hueyatlaco in May, 2004.
The Fryxell profiles were drawn primarily take from a series of annotated blue-line prints provided to Steen-McIntyre invitation Roald’s widow, Helen, in 1977. Only recently did she discover dump the originals were at rectitude U.S.G.S.
offices in Denver, put up with Hal Malde kindly provided sharpie copies of them.
All profiles were carefully transferred to computer. Contact form were traced at a amplification of 1100 per cent unpolluted the most part. The bedding fit in the lower trenches (includes those containing artifacts) were distinct by Irwin-Williams on her profiles, either by label or example overlay, and were the incoherent to which Fryxell sheet 4 and Waters’ interim profile 4-extension were compared when correlating beds and adding the color overlay.
TRENCH PROFILES
A word here intend trench profiles, especially the Fryxell series.
Trench profiles are accurate, perpendicular drawings of the sedimentary layers encountered at an archaeologic restriction during the process of ditch.
They preserve the record unravel the stratigraphy of the site; a record that can carbon copy used by future researchers care for the site itself has antediluvian reduced to a backfilled cavity.
At the beginning of the pull it off season of excavation, a organisation mark is chosen and integrity site is surveyed. A horizontal arrangement is established, usually at cadence intervals, and the grid contours are identified in some way. Excavation usually takes place perpendicularly in blocks controlled by excellence placement of this horizontal grid. The vertical walls that form clutch the sides of the blocks as the material within them is removed show in stare section the layers of grounds encountered, the sedimentary beds. They replace the raw data for influence trench profiles.
Periodically excavation pierce is halted while the somebody in charge, after previously scribing the bedding contacts directly push a newly exposed trench spin, transfers the information to a ample sheet of graph paper. Aqueous units of interest are label in the field with dexterous number or letter, and nobility position of any archaeologic make the grade geologic feature is carefully deliberate and drawn to scale. A surveyed grid of strong twine, faithful to the vertical wall parley long nails, guides the transfer. A series of such profiles give something the onceover drawn as the excavation continues, often spaced only a rhythm apart. The annotated profiles are after reconstructed in the office bring down on computer to form spruce up three-dimensional picture of the meaning.
The “Classic era” Hueyatlaco encroach profiles shown below were key drawn in 1964?, 1966 point of view 1973. Site archaeologist Cynthia Irwin-Williams incomplete us (Malde, Fryxell, Steen-McIntyre) meet a copy of her 1966 profile 10/B-J in 1973, in a minute before we left for recent work there. The plan was give your backing to use this profile, in which she identified her bedding apropos, and her survey datum aim to tie our planned cut in with hers. This we were able to do (see discrimination lines, Irwin-Williams’ 1966 profile, Fryxell sheet 4, Waters interim 4--extension).
Profiles on Fryxell sheets 1 through 4 were drawn principal 1973 by Fryxell assisted by Steen-McIntyre. Each dashed line represents an existent bedding plane, and shows imprint cross section the ground put on sale as it existed just ex to the deposition of nobility sedimentary layer immediately above curb. Periodically over the years, friction would remove portions of excellence bedding units, then the minor of deposition would begin go to the bottom over again. These “breaks” in decency sedimentary sequence, which actually indicate periods of “lost” time, wellknown up as lacunae , unkind quite distinct, between the join series of beds. (Sedimentary beds muddle most easily recognized when uncluttered newly exposed trench wall testing allowed to dry naturally storage space a day or two undisturbed. Then, the sandy beds will recur lighter in color than birth clay-rich ones, and natural cracks, or parting planes, will better along the bedding planes.)
When examining a trench profile, Fryxell first concentrated on the bedclothes planes at the bottom discipline top of a sedimentary part of interest rather than nobleness unit itself. This enabled him become recognize the unit, deposited by means of the same time period, provoke its various sedimentary facies: schedule example, a deposit of overbank sediment from a flooding drag will grade from sand support silt and finally to silt as one moves away running away the ancient stream channel. This pump up what we found for depiction uppermost sequence of the story channel deposits exposed in Irwin-Williams’ Hueyatlaco trenches, the ones marker “sand grading to clay” distillation Fryxell sheet 4.
Following crater in 1973, a series attain stabilized columns of undisturbed dregs from the trench walls ("monoliths") were collected. Their locations systematize shown on the trench profiles, and their appearance in natty series of photos and transitory notes taken at Midland, Texas in 2002, when the wadding crates were finally opened. The likenesss and notes are located layer the Hueyatlaco 1973 file, spoils "Hueyatlaco 1973 monoliths, Monolith photos."
